American Depositary Receipt (ADR)

ADRs are negotiable securities issued by non-US companies in the US capital market via depositary banks (known as sponsors). Depending on the issuer, ADRs represent varying numbers of shares or fractions of shares in foreign companies. ADRs come in listed and unlisted formats.
