Attention Restoration Theory
Attention Restoration Theory (ART) is the theory that nature renews our focus and mental energy. The theory emerged from psychologists Rachel and Stephen Kaplan at the dawn of the 1990s – the onset of the ubiquitous digitalization of our daily lives. In a nutshell, ART says that (unlike technology and digital screens, to which our minds are ill-adapted) nature elicits attention from us effortlessly, leaving the mind restored from the stresses of screens.
