Bank Reconciliation

Companies undertake regular reconciliations to ensure cash on the balance sheet matches the bank statement. The two are unlikely to match exactly because of pending transfer payments, payments in transit, or the application of bank fees and charges to the bank account. But broadly speaking reconciliation will highlight any discrepancies which the company can rectify through updating its accounting records.
