Carbon Offsets
A carbon offset or also known as an offset credit refers to the reduction of carbon dioxide or other greenhouse gas emissions. These offsets are used to compensate for emissions occurring elsewhere. One carbon offset refers to an emission reduction of 1 metric tonne of CO2 emissions and these credits can be traded under the voluntary and mandatory carbon markets. Carbon offsets can also mean an increase in carbon storage, through activities such as restoration of soil and planting of trees.
