Commercial mortgage-backed securities are securities representing the securitisation of commercial and multifamily real estate mortgages. Like their residential mortgage-backed and asset-back security peers, CMBS are issued in different tranches, each representing a different position in the risk structure. CMBS can securitise single properties or portolios of commercial mortgages.
