Commercial Paper

Commercial paper (CP) is an unsecured debt instrument (promissory note) sold predominantly by prime bank, large companies, governments, and agencies to institutional investors to finance short-term credit needs. Maturities are as short as overnight and go out to one year. CP carries no interest; investors purchase at a discount and recognise a return by redeeming at face value.
