Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)
Generally seen as a precursor to ESG integration, Corporate Social Responsibility, or CSR, is an umbrella term that can take many forms depending on the company and industry. It is generally the integration of social and environmental matters into a company’s business operations and interactions with stakeholders, including employees, although for some companies, it referred more to their philanthropic efforts. According to the European Union, being ‘socially responsible’ means not only fully satisfying the applicable legal obligations but also going beyond and investing more in human capital, the environment and stakeholder relations.
