Crowdfunding is a method of raising debt or equity capital through the collective efforts of friends, family, customers, and individual investors, typically on online crowdfunding platforms, which lay out the investment propositions of companies looking for funding. Each debt or equity crowdfunding provider typically offers small amounts. In the UK, the government offers investors tax breaks through the Enterprise Investment Scheme (EIS) and the Seed Enterprise Investment Scheme (SEIS), which offer investors tax-free profits and tax offsets based on a percentage of investment amounts.
