Headline Risk

Headline risk is the risk that news headlines – political, economic, or about a single company (say an M&A announcement or a bankruptcy filing) - true or false – will create negative impacts on securities prices. Headline risks can affect companies, sectors, regions or the entire financial market at a global level. Headline risk can be magnified by the herd behaviour by investors all reacting in the same way to a piece of news.
