Investment Securities

An investment security is broadly defined as a non-physical financial asset that can be traded (i.e. excluding property, land or commodities). Narrower definitions include only bonds, shares and related instruments such as derivatives. The legal definition of what constitutes a security varies by jurisdiction. Bank loans and currencies may technically not be defined as securities.
