Middle Office

In an investment bank, roles are split between front, middle and back office. The specifics of where roles are located will vary by firm. Front office roles are those that have direct interaction with clients -- governments, companies and financial institutions as well as institutional investors. Middle office roles are those that directly support the front office -- people in risk and compliance, some finance and some IT roles, Back office roles are those involved in areas such as trade processing and settlements.
