Modern Slavery

According to the UN, modern slavery refers to “situations of exploitation that a person cannot refuse or leave because of threats, violence, coercion, deception, and/or abuse of power”. According to the UN, Modern Slavery comprises practices such as forced labour, debt bondage, forced marriage, and human trafficking. Modern slavery is a human rights violation and has severe consequences on the health and wellbeing of survivors.Yet, according to a report by the International Labour Organisation (ILO) in 2016, there were over 40 million people worldwide who are victims of modern slavery and many of these are victims in global business supply chains.
