Overfunding

In the crowdfunding world, companies can opt to overfund i.e. raise capital in excess of their target equity raise, in return for giving up more equity. When it comes to pension schemes, overfunding refers to the scenario when a defined benefits plan has more assets than liabilities and has excess cash over and above projected pension obligations. Over-funding can result from outsize market gains or interest-rate increases.
