Political Risk

In financial markets, investors price a number of different risk parameters. When it comes to emerging markets or lower-rated sovereigns, investors price in a political risk premium. This premium results in higher borrowing costs for EM or lower-rated sovereigns to cover political risk: the heightened risk from an investor standpoint that political actions or economic weakness may not result in timely repayment of debt.
