Rate of Return

Measuring the profit or loss of an investment position over the set period of time yields the position’s rate of return. It is simply the change in the value of the investment expressed as a percent of the investment’s entry price. If the position benefits from income distributions, for example, dividends in the case of an equity position, those distributions are included in the overall value of the position.
