Sector

A number of companies operating in the financial sector classify companies using formal classification systems and methodologies. These classifications allocate companies to specific industry sectors and sub-sectors, creating peer groups and peer sub-groups. This segmentation enables users (including investors and product structurers) to construct indices and create sector-based financial products, and it facilitates comparisons between companies by investors and analysts.
