Stock Option
A stock option gives the holder the right but not the obligation to buy (a call option) or sell (put option) an agreed amount of an underlying stock at a set price (the strike price) during the contracted lifetime. An American option allows exercise at any time during the life of the option. A European option is only exercisable at expiry.
