Stop-Loss Order

In securities trading, a stop-loss order is an order to buy or sell once the security has hit a pre-determined price. A sell stop triggers when the security hits a trigger below the current price. A buy stop triggers when the price hits a level above the current price. Once the trigger has been hit, the order becomes a market order, which is subject to slippage (cf.).
