Total Liabilities
A company’s total liabilities are debts and other obligations payable to third parties, including lenders, suppliers and shareholders. Total liabilities include interest and principal on short-term and long-term debt, lease and rental payments, unpaid invoices, unpaid dividends, unearned income, wages and salaries, accounts payable, and tax, insurance and pension liabilities. A company’s total liabilities plus its shareholders’ equity must equal total assets.
