Unrealised Gain

Unrealised Gain

An unrealised gain is one that exists on paper but has not been realised through an actual sale that results in a profit relative to the entry cost of the position. Only when an actual sale has been completed does the seller become liable for any relevant tax. Companies can include unrealised gains in their financial reports as ‘other comprehensive income’.
