Nature-based Offsets

Nature-based offsets represent credits having real and quantifiable reductions in atmospheric carbon dioxide and those that have positive environmental and social impacts, such as soil regeneration, water supply improvement, flood mitigation, and the creation of novel economic opportunities. Nature-based offsets can be produced from investment in nature-based solutions projects that seek to “protect, sustainably manage and restore natural or modified ecosystems that address societal challenges, simultaneously providing human well-being and biodiversity benefits.” Examples include offsets created from mangrove restoration, seagrass protection, grassland regeneration activities, among others.
