Tax Shield
A tax shield is any of a wide range of allowable mechanisms that individuals and businesses utilise specifically to reduce their tax liabilities. By definition, successfully using tax shields reduces tax payable and therefore a company or individual’s effective tax rate. A corporate tax planner might suggest, for example, that a company takes on debt specifically because interest payments are tax deductible so can offset the company’s tax liability.
